The Paisley Blackhawks are a recreational ice hockey team who play for fun and like to have a beer or two after training or games - it's a club rule.

Braehead Arena is our home, it has an Olympic size ice pad, 4000 seats and it is the best ice sports facility in Scotland.

29/10/09 Ayr Jets Host The Blackhawks
The Blackhawks are on the road again for a game against the Ayr Jets at the Ayr Ice Rink. A regular at the Scottish Cup the Jets always provide strong opposition and so we will be expecting a tough game on the compact ice surface.

Ayr Jets are a smart passing team lead by veteran John Kidd, a former Paisley hero from his days in the BNL with the Paisley Pirates, John is a true leader and hates to lose just as much as the Blackhawks.

The Jets have several former GB Internationals on their roster and should never be underestimated.

The Jets also have a current GB player in their squad, Ian 'Dev' Devlin, was recently selected to play for the GB Fire Service team. Dev has been getting extra ice time with our fellow Braehead team, the Strathclyde Flames (Fire Service team), so watch this Jet fly up the wings.

10/10/09 Blackhawks Facebook Page

Scott Hislop, the Blackhawks public relations ambassador and fundraising co-ordinator, has decided to put the Blackhawks onto the popular global social networking website,  Facebook.

Scott has also volunteered to be supply all the match reports for this season and will write  daily blogs from tournaments or trips aboard (if he is in attendance).

03/10/09 Blackhawks See Red

The Blackhawks have decided to buy a new jersey and the majority of players want to get a jersey that has red as the main colour.  A supplier has been contacted and designs have been received.

Our sponsors have been given the opportunity to purchase advertising space on the new jersey and once they give us their decision we will place the order with the suppliers.

02/10/09 Blackhawks Slovakian Tour Put On Hold

The Blackhawks have decided to put their trip to Slovakia back until March/April 2010 as there were only a few players available to make the trip in October 2009.

The Riversdale Pirates have decided that they will not be holding their Cup competition in April 2010 as they continue to rebuild and restructure their club. This had a major bearing on the decision as it was agreed that a weekend in Bratislava would be an ideal substitute for the Edinburgh event.

DISKO Vlad Kaznakov  will contact the local Bratislava clubs to get some possible dates when ice time is available.

24/08/09 Blackhawks Tournament  A Success

The Blackhawks inaugural tournament was a huge success with all the clubs taking part enjoying the weekend in Dumfries on and off the ice.

There were some great games over the 2 days that culminated in a fast and furious final between the Black Bears and the Blackhawks.

The final was one of the fastest games played over the weekend with end to end action and both netminders pulling off some amazing saves. There can only be one winner and for the second time in 3 months it was the Blackhawks that lifted the trophy (we beat the Black Bears in June at the Kingston Cobras Tournament in Hull),

The Black Bears are a great bunch of guys, we have the utmost respect for them, they play hard but fair and their fans are the best we have came across in reccy hockey.

Winners - Paisley Blackhawks

Runners Up - Black Bears

Player Of The Tournament - David Robb (Murrayfield Lightning - guest from Fife Ice Dogs)

Top Points - Juraj Vojtka (Black Bears)

05/08/09 Blackhawks Tournament

01/08/09 Blackhawks Looking For Sponsors

The Blackhawks are looking for local businesses to assist with the operating costs of our club. If you are interested or would like to know more, please e-mail Brian Murdoch at the link above for more details.

The Blackhawks are invited to 4 tournaments each year and play games against other recreational clubs from all over the UK.

25/07/09 Blackhawks Waiting For Slovakian Tournament News

The Blackhawks are waiting to hear if we are invited to a Recreational Tournament in Slovakia in October.

We will take part in cultural exchanges to promote Scotland and Scottish Ice Hockey.

DISKO Vlad Kaznakov has been working hard all summer to make this possible.

18/07/09 Blackhawks Training Starts Away From Home

We have hired the ice at Killie all summer, this session has been an open skate with many "Paisley" players turning up for a bit of fun. A few Pirates have came along which has helped to keep the tempo quite high.

The Blackhawks are looking forward to returning to our home ice at Braehead for the new season but we have to train away from our home rink for a few weeks more.

The Blackhawks hope to hire ice at Murrayfield Ice Rink (as usual) in mid-August to the end of September.

We will invite our fellow Braehead reccy club, the Panthers, to share this training ice,  as ice time on the west coast is hard to find.

Braehead Arena is a popular events venue and all ice users accept this is a part of life in a multi-purpose arena. There are not that many events during the hockey year and it's a small price to pay in order to train and play in Scotland's best ice sports facility.

We are waiting to find when we will return to Braehead for our first training session.

15/07/09 Blackhawks Looking to Start New Season on a High

The Blackhawks are looking forward to returning to Braehead arena with some silverware.

In April - the Blackhawks were runners up at the Riversdale Pirates Tournament in Edinburgh.

In May - the Blackhawks won the Recreational Scottish Cup in Dundee.

In June -  the Blackhawks won the Kingston Cobras Tournament in Hull.

The Blackhawks are hoping that these successes will enable the club to attract sponsors to help keep the costs down for the players.

If you or you know anyone who is willing to sponsor an adult hockey team who play for fun, travel the world as ambassadors for Scotland and ice hockey,  then get in touch with Brian Murdoch using the e-mail link above.
