The Paisley Blackhawks are an adult recreational ice hockey team who play for fun and like to have a beer or two after training or games - it's a club rule.

Braehead Arena is our home, it has an Olympic size ice pad with 4000 seats, it is the best ice sports facility in Scotland.

The arena is also home to the professional ice hockey team, the Braehead Clan who are proud members of the Elite Ice Hockey League, as seen on SKY Sports and are one of four EIHL Scottish based teams.

Braehead Clan are the Aladdin 20/20 Cup 2010/2011 Champions, they are looking forward to the new season ahead and hope to build on the successes they found on and off the ice in their inaugural season.

12/10/11 Blackhawks Looking For Sponsors

The Blackhawks are looking for support to assist us with the operating costs of our club or gift donations that can be used during club fundraising activities. Ice hockey is an expensive sport to play with training and game ice time, referees fees and travel costs.

If you or you know anyone who is willing to sponsor or assist an adult recreational ice hockey team who play for fun, travel the world as ambassadors for Scotland and ice hockey,  then get in touch with Brian Murdoch using the e-mail link above.

03/07/10 Blackhawks Looking for Summer Games

The Blackhawks are looking to play some games over the summer to keep our old legs moving but the hockey is just a bonus. We are really looking to get out on the town for a few beers somewhere different for a wee change of scenery.

If your club is interested in hosting us, feel free to get in touch using the email link above.

We can offer a return game from September onwards when we have game ice available or we can contribute towards the game costs.

06/05/10 Prowlers Win Blackhawks Tournament

Paisley Blackhawks held their second invitational tournament at the Dumfries Ice Bowl on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th May.

The Blackhawks were the winners back in 2009, an event which saw 10 teams participate and which was supported not only by friends and family, but hockey fans from all walks of life. 2011 was no exception, and the Blackhawks were proud to put on the tournament this year.

With only half the teams competing this time around, this meant that the format and running time of the event could be prolonged and adapted to suit the teams and the game better, as it allowed for ice cuts between the games and longer periods. In true hockey fashion, it was not an easy ride for the players or teams competing. It was a display of true passion and grit determination, with some teams running short benches.

Full credit to Ayr Lions who played all their games with a maximum of 8 skaters!

Now that’s what you call dedicated!

Unfortunately it was not the Blackhawks year and they missed out on top spot. The winners this year were the Northern Ireland Prowlers and the runners up were the Newcastle Coyotes.

The games were fast paced and showed that good quality hockey is still alive and well at recreational level. There were plenty of goals, no major penalties and the officiating was just as it should be, fair! The referees and linesman did a great job at officiating the matches, and not turning it into a “3 horse race” on the ice!  All in all it was a great weekend for everyone involved and attending.

Brian Murdoch who led the Blackhawks team in organising the event said “Thank you to Northern Ireland Prowlers, Newcastle Coyotes, Ayr Lions & Irvine Flyers for a good weekend of hockey, we are already looking forward to the next Paisley Blackhawks Tournament that will be held in Dumfries in 2012 during the Blackhawk's 20th anniversary season.

We would also like to thanks the various sponsors, friends and family who made this event possible by giving the club their support either by a financial contribution or donating raffle prizes. The company logos appear on our tournament page.

Lastly, thanks to Gillian, the Turnbulls and Amanda for their endless work off the ice over the weekend."

Well Done Northern Ireland Prowlers on winning the event.

06/05/10 Blackhawks Tournament 2011

The second Blackhawks tournament at the Ice Bowl in Dumfries is just over a week away.

Ayr Lions, Irvine Flyers, Newcastle Coyotes and Northern Ireland Prowlers will be taking to the ice on the 14th & 15th May 2011.

Teams and will play each other in a round robin format followed by 2 Semi-Finals and the Final. A total of 13 games.

06/11/10 Blackhawks Off To Fife Tournament

The Blackhawks are heading to the Kingdom of Fife on 20th & 21st November for the annual Glenrothes Cougars Winter Challenge Cup. This tournament has been going strong for 16 years and many top teams from the UK take part. This year sees the return of Miroslav Rakovan's Slough Tornados after taking 1 year out, it is sure to be a tough challenge for all teams to lift the Cup. Raki is regarded as one of the best players to play reccy hockey in the UK and the former NHL draft pick's speed and skills will be testing the defences and goalies of all the teams.

The Glenrothes Cougars have managed to bring a hockey celebrity over to the UK for this year's event and hockey fans will have the chance to meet the man and get a signed photo for a small fee.

The guest is Yvon Barrette who played Denis "who owwwwwnnns the Chiefs" Lemieux form the cult hockey movie SLAPSHOT.

Yvon is a nice chap, the Blackhawks met him during our tour in Canada in January 2010.

I'm sure Yvon will think the Blackhawks have the Hansons in our team with the crazy number of penalties we get in each game at this event. I hope that the recent SIHL referee seminars and the development programme that has been put in place this year has helped to improve the standards of the officials, the main goal of the governing body is to get consistency, something that has been lacking at previous WCC weekends.

Many Thanks to Bruce's Television in Paisley for their donation towards the tournament entry fee.

05/11/10 Slovakian Tournament Was Fun

The 7 Blackhawks players have returned from their holiday to Bratislava after 6 days of fun on & off the ice.
